Das NFDC, die National Film Development Corporation hat eine Reihe von klassischen indischen Filmen auf DVD herausgebraucht. Die DVD-Reihe „Cinemas of India“ umfasst z. Zt. 31 Titel ( 3 Titel davon stehen noch aus). Sie sind über den Anbieter Induna in Westbengalen erhältlich. Die einzelnen Filme werden mit Trailern auf dieser Website des NFDC vorgestellt.
„Cutting across geographical, social & cross-cultural barriers Cinemas of India is engineered to act as a carrier of Indian cinema in the global culture of film. The campaign aims to encourage an audience for deserving Indian films, parents emerging talent in India, builds an international showcase for these filmmakers in major festivals & markets and promotes India as a potential filming destination for the stories of the world.
Cinemas of India endorses deserving regional, independent & art house cinema to facilitate a broader exchange between the international film community & the Indian film Industry. The campaign has consistently built a promising climate for Indian cinema beginning with the India Pavilion at the Marche Du Cannes (Cannes Film Festival) in 2011. NFDC actively promoted India at Toronto International Film Festival (Canada), MIPCOM (Cannes), American Film Market (Santa Monica) and the European Film Market (Berlin) this year.
Digitally Restored DVD’s/VCD’s of yesteryear classics each a seminal landmark in its own right will now be available in Indian Markets. 22 titles, which include Kundan Shah’s classic black comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Ketan Mehta’s Mirch Masala and Shyam Benegal’s Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda & Mammo among others… (NFDC)
Ähnlich wie Südkorea das schon seit längerem erfolgreich praktiziert, bringt nun auch Indien sein filmkünstlerisches Erbe in den Blickpunkt der Weltöffentlichkeit – zumindest mit Filmen vom Beginn der siebziger Jahre an, seitdem es die Produktionstätigkeit des NFDC gibt.
